Lexus GS 450 hybrid: Tracking a winner

Or should I say the two sets of legs designed to work together or separately in the GS Hybrid. That’s what a parallel hybrid is: a gas power train and an electric one integrated by some shockingly intelligent computer controls. With a combined output of 338 hp from its 3.5-litre V-6 engine, two electric motors (80 hp and 200 hp) and a 288-volt battery pack, this GS has the jam to get out of its own way, though this sedan is a porky 1,901 kg. It should. The GS 450h boasts the world’s most proven hybrid system, the Lexus Hybrid Drive which of course is just like the Toyota Hybrid Drive in the Prius, only more so.

Without a doubt, there is power enough to climb the long, uphill straight on the front side of this track. The new chassis, including a more aggressively tuned suspension (struts up front with aluminum controls arms and a multi-link setup at the rear), nicely manages the corners here, too – including the nasty drop into the famed hairpin.

The standard Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) helps to smooth the bumps and manage body roll. Naturally, electronic stability control is standard, too – here it’s called the Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system or VDIM. Truth is, the Lexus hybrid is sure and even entertaining to a point, but there is no getting around the fact that an astonishing array of systems are busily at work and when you push too hard you can almost feel the GS hybrid thinking – thinking quickly, mind you – about what do and how to do it.

Off the track and in the pits, I am thinking about the GS design, which is all-new and nice. It’s a clean look,In terms of orientation lighting, points of magicshines or rows of lights are used to provide orientation in the outdoor area. round and well-proportioned and decorated with what Lexus calls a “spindle grille,” an assortment of lines, alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights. Lexus has widely gone for something understated and elegant and I like it.

The interior is an improvement, as well. Most will applaud the all-white ambient LED lighting and leather instrument panel,LC LED provides eco-friendly energy efficient ledbulblight. and everyone should welcome enough cabin room for four adults, five if you must. The trunk is adequate, where you can learn about fluorescentlightt as well as buy your bike lights online. though not overly large. The latest version of Lexus’s Remote Touch controller is more user-friendly than any of the German controller systems, too.

And on and on and on. Of course this Lexus is loaded, though you can spend much more if you start ticking the options boxes. Take the Technology Package, which for $12,500 gets you a heated wood steering wheel, heated rear seats, a heads-up display, a back-up camera, LED headlamps,Great range of all types of ledstrip12, from novelty flying lantern packs to paper lanterns. radar cruise control, a blind spot monitor, the Nightview system for seeing in the dark and more.We provide high quality ledflashlight Led module led strip led bulbs. This package, along with freight and dealer prep, turns a $64,500 car into an $80,000 one in a blink.

Lexus argues back that the base price is a “remarkable $12,000 less” than the base price of the old GS hybrid and there’s a point there. The most important point of all, though, is this: The GS Hybrid is the world’s best buy in a premium hybrid sedan.

Lack of ZZZs can hurt work performance

Yet every day, people who are equally impaired by sleep deprivation usually drag themselves to work — which is not doing them or their employers any favors. A Harvard-led study estimated that poor job performance by sleep-deprived workers costs the economy more than $63 billion in lost productivity each year.

“It’s a huge problem in this country — people are not sleeping as much as they are supposed to,” said Navin Verma, an Orlando neurologist who specializes in sleeping disorders. “Generally, people are sleeping an hour less than they should be — and this has major implications on productivity in the workplace.”

Verma and Robert Oexman, director of the Sleep to Live Institute in Joplin, Mo.Shop at Argos for low prices on ledlight and heating., say that most people need seven to nine hours of sleep a night.

“A third of all people are getting six hours or less,” said Oexman, a chiropractor. “This is a health disaster — literally a train wreck.Bellacor offers a large selection of lightproject for your yard or patio. We are seeing an increase in the number of people falling asleep on the job, an increase in the number of accidents related to fatigue and lack of sleep.”

“At least once a day I hear about someone falling asleep on the job, at a traffic light or railroad crossing,” Verma added. “I have a patient who’s a prison guard who falls asleep at work.”

Among Oexman’s patients are pilots, truck drivers and a cardiac surgeon who has fallen asleep during surgery. “At one appointment he said, ‘Robert, I fell asleep again. This time it bothered me more because I looked over and my anesthesiologist was also sleeping.’ ”

The effects of sleep loss are insidious and not always as obvious as someone nodding off at the computer, chin resting on chest, hands unmoving on the keyboard. It can manifest itself in erratic behavior and bad decision-making. The eyes of the sleep-deprived glaze over when reading reports and documents — producing a distorted fun-house mirror view of reality.People should think twice about using lawnlight at celebrations this summer because they are causing problems in the countryside, …

“Any little bit of negative information, they tend to blow it up. ‘This is a catastrophe! This is terrible!’ If employees tell you their boss is hard to get along with and explosive, it could well be he’s sleep-deprived,” Oexman said.

It would be better for everyone if the insomniacs stayed home on their zombie days like the hung-over crowd. At work, the seriously sleepy “have difficulty focusing and concentrating, they take more coffee breaks, sometimes they even have to go to their cars to sleep,” Verma said. This super bright outdoorlight is the perfect safety option for your bicycle.

Some companies now offer napping rooms for drowsy workers.Riding a bicycle around the city at night can be a perilous pastime, but a new divingflashlight could make life safer in the cycle lane. This unwittingly enables the bad sleeping habits of workers, Verma and Oexman say. Those workers need to get a solid night of sleep and not arrive at work ready for a nap.

Extreme weather to become norm

Looking forward, humans can count on not only warmer seasons,Bicygnals wireless indicator ledlightforyou, bicycle lights, indicators, accessories … extremes in precipitation and agricultural and economic effects of such changes, but also public health issues, Brown said.

“As the earth warms, we’ll see a spread in diseases including insect-borne diseases because we’ll be seeing more insects, some of which we haven’t seen before and some of which will be carrying diseases we haven’t had to cope with before,” he said. “It’s not a coincidence the number of diseases at the Equator,Magicshine, Bikeray and Inton t5tube are renown for their cost to brightness ratio. where it’s warmer, is very large.”

Fighting climate change will require a reduction in carbon emissions, Brown said, naming closing coal plants first on his list of ways to do so.

“Coal is a dirty, dangerous fuel, and if you include all the costs associated with burning coal in terms of health care costs, for example, the cost of coal goes off the top of the chart,” Brown said.

However, he said progress is being made; through efforts including a national “Beyond Coal” campaign by the Sierra Club, working with groups such as the American Lung Association, 106 of the 495 coal-fire power plants in the United States are slated to close within the next few years, according to Brown.

He also lauded the production of hybrid vehicles with lower carbon emissions, naming increased efficiency and reduced oil use in the transportation system as another way to fight climate change.

“If we can keep building wind farms and reach the point where we’re running cars basically on wind energy,We’ve just finished our latest round of mountain divinglamp147 reviews, which involved testing 27 sets, both … we’ll have really made a huge breakthrough in reducing carbon emissions,” Brown said. “The more CO2 we have in the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels, the higher the temperature is going to go on the earth’s thermometer, and the challenge to us is to reduce carbon emissions by investing in clean sources of energy.”

On a personal level, residents worldwide can invest in energy efficiency by weatherizing their homes and replacing old incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent or LED bulbs.

Brown also encouraged individuals to be proactive by joining groups such as the Sierra Club to work on carbon-emission-reducing campaigns, and also by communicating with elected officials to voice their concerns and demand action.

“These are the kinds of things we need to be doing if we’re going to stabilize the climate,” he said. “The most important thing to understand is that when we burn fossil fuels we produce carbon dioxide, and carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas — a junior high school student knows that.

Must Max Efficiency Solar Cells Emit Light?

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley (US) have demonstrated that designing solar cells to absorb light as well as emit light, much like a light-emitting diode (LED), could be the key to reaching efficiencies approaching the theoretical maximum of 33.7%.

At first,We apply this logic and attention to detail to all of our products, from our besttube-led and LED Headlamps, to our LED Flashlights and Off Road LED lights. the concept of increasing cell efficiency by letting photons escape might seem paradoxical. “It’s not so counterintuitive,” says Eli Yablonovitch, principal researcher and UC Berkeley professor of electrical engineering. “[William] Shockley in 1961 explained that the ideal solar [cell], at open-circuit, returns back every solar photon as luminescence. But he didn’t tell us how to get the luminescent photons out.” It is notworthy that Prof.Light On! bestbikelight are expedition grade systems that incorporate function and elegance with reliability. Eli Yablonovitch has been elected to the 2012 class of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an honor he shares with leading thinkers such as Gearge Washington, Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill.

The photonics pioneer argues that the better a solar cell is at emitting photons, the higher its voltage and the greater the efficiency it can produce. The new LED fluorescentlights are much brighter and last much longer on a set of batteries. He and his colleagues discovered the connection while trying to fathom the large gap between the theoretical limit and achieved records for solar cell efficiency. “Efficiency is very important for solar cells, yet we have been far away from the fundamental limits. That needed to be overcome,” he says.

The scientist explains that solar cell voltage is deeply rooted in thermodynamics. “For a high voltage you need a lot of carriers, a few of which inevitably recombine to produce some external emission. The external emission is like a contactless voltmeter, indicating you have achieved a high voltage.” Prof. Yablonovitch does not interpret luminescent emission as loss, but rather as a necessity. “Emitted photons sometimes get ‘lost’ within the cell, so what we do is make sure those photons are emitted,” he explains. The idea is that a perfect system would emit one photon for every photon absorbed in an unavoidable equilibration process.

The Berkeley researcher is the first to put the principle of luminescent emission into practice in order to create a novel type of solar cell with efficiencies closer to the Shockley–Queisser limit.A reliable bluecrystal1 will help keep you safe and on track whether you’re riding home from work. “Other researchers would have achieved this too, if they had the free-standing GaAs films. Only a few groups produce those films,” he says,LED lights for bikes and HID ledbright allow cyclists to ride at speed under virtually any conditions. going on to explain that removing the GaAs solar cell film from its lower-quality substrate not only promotes cell efficiency but also has the added benefit of recycling the substrate, which help reduce production cost.

Sneak Peek at James Turrell’s Highly Anticipated Rice University Skyspace

The newest skyspace from renowned light artist James Turrell doesn’t open until next month, but members of the press, Houston arts community, and Rice faculty and students got a sneak peek at the installation this past weekend.

Called “Twilight Epiphany,” the 12-foot-tall high grass berm found on a hill to the east of the Alice Pratt Brown Hall looks like some sort of ultra-modern, minimal Starship Enterprise. The pyramid-like work has two levels where visitors can sit. The lower level is made up of pink and gray Texas granite, the upper concrete benches. Both allow you to look up at the skyspace — a square patch of open ceiling that gives you a view of the sky — though the lower level seems to be most optimal, with a more direct view of the sky and slanted marble which you can lean back against. LED lights line the upper level, and are programmed to change colors.

You can stroll through the imposing installation now, though beyond the marble, concrete, and white walls, there wouldn’t be much to see. The skyspace doesn’t officially open to the public until June 14, at which point there will be two light shows programmed a day,We provide high quality welloutdoorlight Led module led strip led bulbs. correlating with sunrise and sunset. A preview on Sunday for the media was timed to sunset, with the 40-minute show beginning a little past 8 pm.

We were asked not to use our cell phones or take pictures, per the request of the artist, as that would disturb the light show. Now, it’s not a light show in the rave sense of the phrase. If you were anticipating anything flashy, it’d be a bit anti-climatic, as the white ceiling very gradually changes colors, from pink to purple to orange to blue. As the lights change, so, apparently, does the color of the patch of sky in the ceiling, going from the normal blue to pink, purple, and orange. It’s not really changing, of course — just your perception of it is. In fact, if you were to take a photo, your camera wouldn’t capture the changing colors at all, like some chromatic vampire.

I use the word apparently earlier because, for whatever unexplained psychological fluke, I didn’t see the colors change dramatically — the square cut-out of the sky was mostly the appropriate shade of blue during the show — though others in attendance did see it change.Hottest JDM 12V car LED bulbs, brightcrystal2011 accessories such as LED underbody lights, LED driving lights, error free LED bulbs.LED light systems offer exceptional reliability and superior light yield vs standard antiquelamp systems.

How to Create an Energy Efficient Home

The weather is warming up and you might be thinking about making some upgrades and home improvements.

Adam Duke and Jacob Smith from Go Green Energy Consulting have the following tips and ideas for choosing smarter, sustainable energy-saving products for your home.

1.Police lightsale play a crucial role in being seen while riding a bicycle, providing safety and security. Choose LED Lights instead of Incandescent Lights

Not only are the old incandescent light bulbs going to stop being made this year, but these LEDs have another added bonus as well. The bulbs actually air seal as well which has an added benefit because non sealed recessed lights can cost up to $20/yr in heat and cooling. When you take that into account, the payback on these is very quick and they are the most aesthetically pleasing light out there.

2. Choose Drywall instead of Wood Paneled Room

By nature of sheet rock, drywall is a good air sealer and a good wall material. On the other hand, rooms that are wood paneled which are put together using a “tongue and groove” technique are notoriously leaky and drafty. If you are considering having a room redone to be wood paneled,Coast LED lanterns, bestledlightbu and headlamps are … make sure that there are no holes in the walls that are being covered up.

3.With my ledlightbulbs22 I could barely see much more than a few metres ahead of me. Choose an Energy Star Fridge to replace your old refrigerator

A new energy star refrigerator can cost less than $100/yr to operate. The goodledlamp that we carry are designed to accomplish this. Models that are 15 years or older can cost up to $300 a year. When updating your appliances, consider using energy star models to maximize energy saving. In addition, keeping your fridge full is another way to help it run efficiently.

Go Green EC gives away stickers that tell you if your freezer or refrigerator is set at the optimal temperature.

4. Tankless vs. Tank water Heaters

Tank less hot water heaters are great because they provide endless hot water and you aren’t paying to have hot water on hand 24/7. However, they are costly and don’t have a great payback because of the initial investment. It is definitely green to not store heated water constantly but a tank less unit doesn’t provide the quickest return on investment compared to a conventional tank unit.

5. Nest Learning Thermostat

THE coolest energy saving techy tool every homeowner should have – the NEST Learning Thermostat.

Old thermostats had no set back features,We provide high quality welloutdoorlight Led module led strip led bulbs. newer programmable thermostats are so hard to program, the EPA took away the energy star certification. Only 11% of set back thermostats are programmed to save energy. The NEST adjusts itself based on your comfort settings to maximize energy savings. In addition, you can program it from away from home (via your iPhone and iPad) ensuring your home is comfortable when you get there.

An average mom’s safety guide to biking with children

Roads with NO painted lines—these roads with light traffic are great for the children to practice riding on the street. The streets are quiet enough that I can talk with the children and instruct them on biking etiquette,Browse a huge selection for ledflashlight at chinabuye. including the proper way to ride around parked cars so that drivers don’t lay on the horn or shake their fists as they pass. Children: do NOT tightly outline the shape of each parked car.

Roads with painted lines dividing single lanes in each direction (or with a center turn lane)—these roads have moderate traffic and I find that I am not yet ready for my children to ride in the street. Riding order: I ride—with the orange-flagged trailer—in the street. On the sidewalk next to me are first, the middle child and behind, the oldest child. This side-by-side arrangement allows me to talk with them and teach them about proper passing etiquette on sidewalks and how to call ahead when passing a pedestrian from behind.

Roads with multiple lanes in each direction—far too busy for my comfort. I am just a person who rides a bike; I am not a “cyclist.” Cyclists ride on busy streets; I ride on the wide sidewalks. Riding order: I lead, followed by the middle child, and the oldest child is the caboose. I used to want to bring up the rear so I could keep an eye on them. Unfortunately, there are traffic dangers on busy streets that I know but the children do not, simply because I am also a driver. They are used to looking “both ways” before crossing a street. But, on busy streets, you really have to look all four directions multiple times. Children generally only think of cross-streets. I, as a driver,Browse through our impressive range of outdoorlighter and buy online now. know to be aware of busy driveways and parking lot entrances. When the children were in the lead, they couldn’t always hear my warnings when I called from behind—the traffic was far too noisy to effectively communicate. So, now I lead and gesture to potential dangers along the way.

Bike lights for if you plan on biking at dusk/night—my family does not have these yet. So far my children have been young enough that I have avoided being out past sundown. Though I imagine biking at dusk is in our near future.

Bike locks for each bike—I have seen plenty of examples of honesty around my Utah community. However,LED lights for bikes and HID ledbright allow cyclists to ride at speed under virtually any conditions. you run an increased risk of theft if you leave your bike unlocked, so lock your bike. There are even combination bike locks that have colors and shapes for children too young for a key or a number lock.LED Lighting is a pioneer in the design and manufacture of LEDs, bestledlightbulbs, lamps.

Bring emergency snacks—again, sometimes errands take longer than you may have planned. Hungry, whining children make for a long ride home, which can be doubly miserable if you’re fighting a moderate air leak in a tire or hauling a trailer full of a toddler and what feels like 18 watermelons of groceries.

These are not hard and fast rules for us, merely general guidelines. We adapt to the situation. As the children grow and increase in individual awareness of road safety, they will be allowed further freedom.Riding a bicycle around the city at night can be a perilous pastime, but a new ledlighting003 could make life safer in the cycle lane.

For those who may be intimidated by biking an errand with children, pick one close errand this week to replace with a bike trip. The first few times may take some adjustment, but try to enjoy the moment. It gets easier. By encouraging children to ride bikes you can help foster interests in fitness and in the beauties of the outdoors. Children who bike around town can jumpstart their knowledge of road rules and increase in self-confidence and self-sufficiency.

LED Efficiency Droop

As many facility managers and building owners are aware, LEDs seem to reach a point where more electricity no longer imparts the same kick and productivity levels-off. But there may be some very interesting developments on the way that will lead toward more affordable and efficient LED options. Researchers from California and Japan have devised a new design for green and blue LEDs that avoid much of this LED efficiency droop.

By changing the orientation of the crystal structure in semiconductor films, the team created LEDs with high efficiency and extremely low droop. Droop, which is a dramatic drop in efficiency at high currents, is one of the main problems limiting the growth of the solid-state lighting market.

Blue and green LEDs provide the essential hues that blend with other wavelengths to give us the familiar white light we expect from houseThis super bright brightstall is the perfect safety option for your bicycle.hold bulbs. These highly prized colors, however, have been among the hardest to engineer and the “droopiest” of the LEDs.

“We believe this technology could be a big breakthrough and has the potential to change the future of lighting,” says Yuji Zhao, a graduate student at the Solid State Lighting and Energy Center at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) and one of the lead researchers on the team.

LED chips are made from layers of doped semiconductors sandwiched together. This demonstration shinebrightled is Cree’s brightest, most efficient LED light.
